The Walled City Partnership Limited comprises of Derry City and Strabane District Council, the Foyle Civic Trust and the City Centre Initiative. It was formed in 2002 with the purpose of preserving and enhancing the architectural and historical character of Derry both within and around the historic walls. The Partnership is supported by advisors from DOE Planning NI, Department for Social Development North West Development Office and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive.
The Partnership is responsible for implementing and administering the Walled City Townscape Heritage Initiative which is supported by the Heritage Fund. The purpose of this Initiative is to enhance the visual appearance of the environment and to improve the physical, economic and social conditions of the Conservation Area in which the Scheme is in operation.
Phase 1 of the Townscape Heritage Initiative Scheme was completed in 2010 and one of the flagship properties which benefitted from the Scheme was the Northern Counties building in Waterloo Place.
