Councillor M McHugh referred to the International Appalachian Trail which runs from West Donegal in the Republic of Ireland to Larne Co Antrim in Northern Ireland. He stated that a delegation from the Appalachian Trail in America would be visiting the area as part of an outdoor economy knowledge event. He proposed that Council host a one day event at Strabane Council Offices as the delegation will be visiting the Strabane/Castlederg area at the beginning of June. He stated that it was an opportunity to promote the International Appalachian Trail and also give the delegates an opportunity to inform Members on their outdoor economy programme and how it could be developed in this area.
Alderman Hussey concurred with the sentiments expressed by Councillor M McHugh and stated that he seconded the proposal.
The Chair stated that she was familiar with the programme and was aware that Council had previously hosted a delegation from the Appalachian Trail which had proven to be very successful.
