Message of Appreciation


The Mayor noted that this was the final meeting of Council for the entirety of the mandate and also his final time as Chairperson of Council.  He expressed his thanks to Members for their work and assistance to the people of the City and District.  He expressed his gratitude on behalf of Council to Alderman M Hamilton, Alderman R Hamilton, Councillor Carlin and Councillor O’Reilly on their retirement as Elected Representatives.  He stated that it was important to record Members thanks to the Chief Executive and the Officer team for the assistance and good advice given to Members over the past four years and also to all Council staff who had often gone above and beyond the call of duty.  Concluding, he stated that on a personal note, he wished to pass on his particular thanks to the staff in the Mayor’s office for all their hard work, professionalism and assistance during his time as Mayor.


                        Alderman Hussey endorsed the Mayor’s remarks and stated that on the occasions when called upon to deputise on behalf of the Mayor, the staff in the Mayoral office had been exemplary and he has appreciated their assistance throughout the year.


                        Councillor Duffy stated that on behalf of Sinn Féin she wished to extend her thanks to the Mayor.  She stated that they had found him accommodating and that he had conducted himself in a very positive manner.  She also paid tribute to the outgoing Members on all their hard work in Council and within their communities.  She then echoed the sentiments expressed by the Mayor regarding Council Officers, adding that their contribution, vision and advice had been exemplary.


                        Councillor Reilly also echoed the sentiments expressed by the previous speakers.  He extended best wishes to Members who were not returning to Council and contesting the elections and stated that they could now enjoy time with their families.  He remarked that all Members made a contribution to civic life throughout the City and District which impinged upon time spent with their families and wished those not contesting all the best in their future lives.


                        Members from the DUP, UUP and Independent Members concurred with the remarks made by the previous speakers and expressed good luck to those standing in the Council elections on 2 May 2019.


                        The Mayor then read out a thank you card to Members from Alderman M Hamilton.  He then thanked her for all her work over the past four years and wished her well for the future.
