Supporting People Programme

Councillor O’Reilly to Move:

That this Council recognises the specialist work being carried out by frontline workers through the Supporting People Programme and backs the workers trade union, UNISON in their call for an independent review into the Supporting People Programme.

Any such review must have the direct involvement of UNISON, with a specific focus of highlighting the experiences and work completed by frontline workers.

Councillor Cusack to Move:

This Council recognises the public concerns raised after numerous elections at the presence of Party representatives inside polling stations, taking note of who has voted. Understands that this is wholly unnecessary and makes the voter feel uncomfortable, anxious and can result in non- attendance to vote, which is harmful to the democratic process. Is concerned that the process of calling details aloud in an open forum in order to facilitate these agents is in direct conflict with new GDPR legislation for which Council could be held liable.  Trusts that the Electoral Office staff have adequate checks and balances within their own system and procedures to ensure voter detail accuracy.

Therefore requests that all Parties and Independents agree to withdraw their non- candidate representatives from inside the polling stations at all future elections.

Alderman M Hamilton to Move:

That this Council recognises and acknowledges the hurt caused to innocent victims of terrorist violence by the Mayor of San Francisco's decision to present a posthumous 'Certificate of Honour' to Martin McGuinness and urges Mayor Breed to review her citation with particular regard to the wording 'courageous service in the military' and to rescind the award.

Councillor Campbell to Move:

That this Council commends the dignity and the determination of the Bloody Sunday families in their long campaign for truth and justice; expresses our ongoing support and solidarity for them in the face of the PPS decision to prosecute just one former soldier for their role in the massacre. This Council echoes the disappointment felt by many at that decision and resolves to support the families in whatever steps they decide to take in order to challenge it.

Molann an Chomhairle seo an dínit agus an dúthracht a léirigh teaghlaigh Dhomhnach na Fola le linn a bhfheachtais fhada chun an fhírinne agus an chóir a éileamh; cuireann muid ár dtacaíocht leanúnach agus ár ndlúthpháirtíocht in iúl dóibh ainneoin chinneadh an ionchúisitheora phoiblí gan ach iarshaighdiúir amháin a chúisiú as an ról a bhí aige sa sléacht. Seasann an Chomhairle seo gualainn ar ghualainn leo siúd a bhfuil díomá orthu maidir leis an chinneadh seo agus socraíonn muid go dtabharfaidh muid tacaíocht do na teaghlaigh agus iad i mbun gnímh chun an cinneadh seo a cheistiú.
