Notice of Motion - Investing in the Teaching Workforce Scheme

(a)       Councillor O’Reilly to Move

Derry and Strabane District Council calls for equality for all teachers in relation to the `Investing in the Teaching Workforce Scheme’.

(b)       Councillor C Kelly to Move

That this Council calls on the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys TD and the Minister for the Environment and Community, Alan Kelly TD to ensure that the areas around 10-25 Moore Street, Dublin are fully protected as a National monument for the purpose of preserving locations associated with Easter 1916.

Go nglaonn an Chomhairle se oar an Aire Ealaíon, Oidhreachta agus Gaeltachta, Heather Humphreys TD agus ar an Aire Comhshaoil agus Pobail, Alan Kelly TD cinntiú go gcosnaítear go hiomlán na dúichí thart timpeall Shráid Uí  Mhórdha, Áth Cliath mar shéadchomhartha Náisíunta chun áiteacha atá bainte le Cáisc 1916 a chaomhnú.

(c)       Councillor Donnelly to Move

The Council recognises the GPO/Moore Street battlefield site in Dublin as an area of major international historic and cultural importance.  We call upon the relevant State and Council authorities to immediately withdraw all threats of demolition to Numbers 13, 18 and 19 Moore Street.  We further call for Numbers 10-25 Moore Street to be retained and for those buildings to form the centrepiece of a new `1916 Quarter’.

(d)       Councillor Dobbins to Move

That this Council notes the crucial role of the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service in responding to fires, road traffic collisions, flooding and other specialist services and in providing an educational service in terms of safety; expresses regret that it has not been considered a frontline service by the current Minister of Health, Social Services and Public Safety; notes its concern that proposed cuts will compromise public safety by downgrading fire stations and increasing response times, especially within the Strabane and rural areas of our District Council, as well as compromising the safety of fire officers and calls on this Council to do all it can to support the work of the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue service and articulate its opposition to any further cut to the NIFRS  budget.
