The release of Balloons and Lanterns throughout the City and District

Councillor Burke to Move:

Following the recent Climate Emergency declaration, this Council, as a start, should discourage the practice of balloon/lantern releases and encourage alternative ways of marking events within the city and District.

Furthermore, our Council will not participate in, or endorse, activities and events which continue this practice, as they are causing ever increasing damage to our wildlife, marine life and environment.

AgusÉigeandáil Aeráide fógraithe ag an Chomhairle seo ar na mallaibh, ba chóir dúinn, mar thús, cur in éadan an cleachtadh atá ann balún/laindéar a scaoileadh saor agus bealaí eile le himeachtaí a cheiliúradh laistigh den chathair agus an cheantar a spreagadh.

Ar a bharr sin, bheidh an Chomhairle seo páirteach thacóidh le gníomhaíochtaí himeachtaí ar bith a leanann leis an chleachtadh seo, cionn is go bhfuil siad ag cruthú damáiste atá ag dul i méid i gcónaí dár bhfiadhúlra, fiadhúlra muirí agus don timpeallacht.

Councillor Hunter to Move:

That this Council recognises the dire need for an increase in mental health funding to allow easier access to mental health services in the North West region.  Due to the ongoing loss of life, as a result of mental illness in our City and District, that this Council write to the leaders of each of the Assembly parties urging them to reach a resolution to restore power sharing and prioritise emergency funds for mental health facilities to help further assist with “point of need care” here in the North West.

Councillor Duffy to Move:

We recognise that Domestic Abuse can take many forms.

We recognise that Parental Alienation is a form of Domestic Abuse.

And that Derry City and Strabane District Council recognise and supports the work being carried out by La Dolce Vita to address the issue of domestic Violence and parental alienation, throughout our City and District.
