Notices of Motion

Councillor Gallagher to Move:

That this Council proactively promotes the Strabane District to be part of the financial package that will be negotiated as part of the City Deal. That partnerships are now put in place with potential deliverers within the Strabane District to take these plans forward.

Councillor Duffy to Move:

Go dtacaíonn an Chomhairle seo leis an fheachtas “On the Ball” a bhfuil mar chuspóir aige táirgí sláintíochta saor in aisce a chur ar fáil chomh forleathan agus is féidir ag páirceanna imeartha agus i bhfoirgnimh phoiblí le dul i ngleic le bochtaineacht mhíostraithe atá ag méadú i rith an ama.

Mar chéim chun tosaigh, iarraim ar an Chomhairle féidearthachtaí a mheas maidir leis an scéim a thabhairt isteach ag Halla na Cathrach, in oifigí na Comhairle i nDoire agus ar an tSrath Bán agus i gcomhréir leis an fheachtas “On the Ball” go meastar féidearthachtaí maidir le táirgí sláintíochta a chur ar fáil ag Staidiam Ryan McBride Thobar an Fhíoruisce.

mór dúinn ár ndícheall a dhéanamh bheith ar an chéad Chomhairle ó Thuaidh chun tacú le hiarrachtaí chun bochtaineacht mhíostraithe a fheabhsú agus ár bpáirt a ghlacadh chun athruithe dearfacha a dhéanamh sa cheist seo.

Ba chóir go bhfeicfí ar scéimeanna den chineál seo chun táirgí sláiníochta a chur ar fáil i scoileanna, ollscoileanna, áiteanna oibre, páirceanna peile agus i gceolárais mar ghnáthnós.

That this Council supports the “On the Ball” campaign, the aim of which is to provide free sanitary products in as many sporting grounds and public buildings as possible to combat the ever growing issue of period poverty.

As an initial step, that this council looks at the feasibility of its introduction at the Guildhall, the council offices in both Derry and Strabane, and in keeping with the “On The Ball” campaign we also look at the feasibility of providing free sanitary products in the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.

We should strive to become the first council in the North to proactively help efforts to tackle period poverty and be part of bringing about such positive change.

It should be the norm in schools, universities colleges, workplaces, football grounds, concert venues for free access to sanitary product provision.

Councillor D Kelly to Move:

That this Council acknowledges the commitments made in the Brexit negotiations - both the Joint Report and the Draft Agreement - where Irish/EU citizens in the North of Ireland ‘will continue to enjoy, exercise and have access to rights, opportunities and benefits as EU citizens’.

In recognising that this body of rights includes democratic rights (including the right to vote and stand as candidates in EU elections) and given that Ireland has been allocated two additional seats in the European Parliament, this Council calls on the Irish Government to amend the current legislation to allocate those seats to the North of Ireland to ensure EU citizens here continue to have representation in the European Parliament.
