Notices of Motion

Councillor Boyle to Move:

Derry City & Strabane District Council notes the recent introduction of Government funding in England and Wales to cover the funeral costs of children. This Council further recognises that in the absence of a functioning devolved government at Stormont such an appropriate action cannot yet be introduced regionally. We welcome the introduction of a scheme to address this anomaly in other Councils in the North. Therefore Derry City & Strabane District Council will henceforth introduce measures to waive all costs associated with the provision of a grave for children under 18 years of age until such time as a regional initiative is introduced.

Alderman Hussey to Move:

That this Council waive the cost of opening a grave for those under 18 years of age and stillborn births and:

Mindful of the 'Children's Funeral Fund' having been launched by the Prime Minister on 1st April 2018 covering Mainland UK whereby parents no longer have to meet the cost of burials and cremations will seek, in the absence of a functioning Northern Ireland Executive, to have this scheme extended to Northern Ireland.

Councillor Logue to Move:

That this Council recognises the distress of the death of a child or young person.  I therefore call upon this Council to waive the associated cost of grave provision in this Council district for all those under 18 years of age.

Go n-aithníonn an Chomhairle seo an briseadh croí a bhaineann le bás linbh duine óig. Mar sin de, iarraim ar an Chomhairle gan na costais atá bainte le huaigh a cheannach a éileamh i gcás básanna faoi 18 mbliana d’aois sa cheantar Comhairle seo.

Councillor Gardiner to Move:

Derry City and Strabane District Council calls on the Department for Education in conjunction with the Education Authority to complete an audit of the number of nursery school places in this council region and to compare that with the number of children in the region who are of Nursery school age with a view to ensuring every child in this council region has accessible nursery school provision.

Councillor D Kelly to Move:

That this Council endorses Paragraph 49 of the agreed December 2017 Joint

Report (between the EU and the British Government) as the only option which currently ensures no hardening of the border in Ireland.

Adopts Paragraph 49 as this Councils default position when proactively engaging with Government partners to press for the ‘backstop’ option as defined in Paragraph 49 to be retained in the final Withdrawal Agreement.

Seeks assurances from EU negotiators, the EU Council and Parliament and the

British Government that they are working to ensure protection of full EU rights for citizens and this protection will be formalized by inclusion in the final

Withdrawal Agreement.

Go dtacaíonn an Comhairle Paragraph 49 de Chomhthuairisc aontaithe na

Nollaig 2017 (idir Aontas na hEorpa agus Rialtas na Breataine) mar an t-aon

roghaamháin faoi láthair a chinntíonn nach mbeidh aon chruachan ar an

teorainn in Éirinn.  ...  view the full agenda text for item C176/18
